Starting Anew

Well yesterday, Feb 11 , I lost my job. This was totally unexpected. I have a decent severance and benefits until the end of the year. I also have access to outplacement, which will help with resume writing etc.
The things I learned were -
  • never think you are safe in a job
  • never leave all your personal contacts on your work computer - GONE
  • but don't wallow in your grief for too long - keep moving
I will be quilting for the next few days to get my mind in a better place. Also doing vigorous rehabing on my ankle so I can go to interviews without limping.
I am fortunate in that my package is much better than many other people in the country are getting right now and it sets me up to look at many options.
The key is making enough money to keep paying college tuitions without going into heavy debt.

I will be really revamping the finances and getting that organized. We have said for 30 years we needed a budget, but we have always been "comfortable" and so a little naive and lazy about really planning - this is a kick in the butt to get us more organized about that.

So more quilts will be showing up and the job search will take center stage for a while.
